2020 NFL Draft: 6 teams that absolutely need to draft Tua Tagovailoa
By John Buhler
It sounds strange given their inherent dysfunction as an organization, but the Miami Dolphins are the best landing spot for Tagovailoa. Despite being expected to win zero games last year, the Dolphins miraculously went 5-11 and ended up with the No. 5 overall. Everybody and their brother thought Miami was tanking for Tua at the start of the year. Now, they’re the favorite to get him.
Miami not only has the No. 5 overall pick, but they have the No. 18 overall pick from the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They have plenty of assets to move up as high as they would like to draft Tagovailoa out of Alabama. Miami can stand pat at No. 5 and still probably get him, or trade-up as high as No. 1 with the Cincinnati Bengals if the Dolphins really feel like it.
The reason Miami is the best fit for Tagovailoa is the culture head coach Brian Flores is building. He seems to be the one Bill Belichick coaching disciple who’s going to work leading his own team, not including Mike Vrabel, who played for him. Add in that the Dolphins have a proven commodity at quarterback in journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and this makes all the sense in the world.
Of course, the Dolphins traded with the Arizona Cardinals last year for former first-round pick Josh Rosen out of UCLA. If the Dolphins don’t believe in him either, look for them to put all their chips on the table and draft Tagovailoa at all costs in the top-10 of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He can rehab while witnessing FitzMagic in all of his bearded glory. We can all see it now in Miami.
