2. Andy Carroll helps Newcastle to shock win over Wolves

Wolves host Newcastle on Saturday in a game that many think will only go one way. Wolves have carried on their fantastic form this season and are knocking on the door of the top four, while Newcastle are involved in a battle at the wrong end of the league table.

The Magpies have already amassed 25 points this season, and if they replicate their first half of the season, then relegation shouldn’t be a thought considering some of the sides that are struggling below them.

A win away at Wolves seems incredibly unlikely, but they weren’t far off it last season. The Magpies produced an incredibly disciplined performance at Molineux and were unfortunate to come away with only a point after a 95th minute equalizer from Willy Boly.

Steve Bruce seems to have followed Rafa Benitez’s defensive model and unsurprisingly, it’s helping Newcastle to get results this season. What the Magpies need to cut out is the silly defensive errors which are very avoidable.

Against Leicester, Newcastle were managing the game very well, but two poor defensive mistakes led to two Leicester goals and that killed the game. A loss to Leicester might have been expected by most, but there wasn’t much in that game until the Newcastle defense gifted Ayoze Perez the opening goal.

Away from home the Magpies seem even more resilient, which should trouble Wolves. The Black Country side are very easy on the eye and are doing remarkably well considering they only came into the Premier League last season. However, unlike the big sides in this league they sometimes struggle when faced with a strong defensive front.

Wolves have some great players but they don’t have that unplayable forward which the very best teams do. Therefore, if Newcastle can stick to their defensive tasks well and not make silly mistakes then they’re in with a real chance of winning this game.

Andy Carroll may not start on Saturday, but he will be fit enough to make an appearance and in doing so, he will score the match’s only goal in a shock 1-0 win for the Toon.
