NBA DFS: Studs, scrubs, and duds for DraftKings and FanDuel Jan. 12
Top star players, best value picks, and guys you should stay away from on January in NBA DFS on DraftKings and FanDuel.
Welcome to Studs, Scrubs, and Duds; FanSided’s NBA DFS lineup helper.
Here’s what’s on the slate for tonight:
6 p.m. ET: Atlanta at Brooklyn, Golden State at Memphis, San Antonio at Toronto
8 p.m. ET: LA Clippers at Denver, Charlotte at Phoenix
How this works:
Studs: Top high salary picks that you can build your lineup around.
Scrubs: Value players looking for a big night or consistent options to help fill out your lineup.
Duds: Players to avoid given their high salary and/or poor matchup.
Five players are picked on each slide, positions are not applicable, and both DraftKings and FanDuel salaries are listed.
Studs
Trae Young (at BKN – $10,300 on DK; $10,200 on FD): The Nets are already a weak defensive team. The return of Kyrie won’t exactly help them in that department. Trae is almost always good for big numbers and Sunday should be no exception. A triple double is a really possibility but definitely expect a high scoring game from him.
Kawhi Leonard (at DEN – $9,000 on DK; $9,700 on FD): If Paul George doesn’t play then that means Kawhi will be a bigger factor. But I expect him to be a big factor regardless due to the matchup. It’s a tough game for the Clippers and Kawhi always raises his level in these circumstances. Look for him to put up strong scoring numbers and chip in elsewhere with a solid line across the board.
Devin Booker (vs CHA – $8,400 on DK; $8,800 on FD): Booker’s scoring may have been slightly down against the Magic but don’t be concerned about it. The Hornets are not the Magic. Booker’s scoring will pick back up in a big way in this game as he likely finds himself back over 30 points to go along with his assists and rebounds.
Ja Morant (vs GS – $7,400 on DK; $7,500 on FD): The offense should flow for both teams as neither team offers much defense in the grand scheme of things. And Morant is the best player on the court. He should be in for a big scoring night against the Warriors and a potential double double. There’s good value through this game given the lack of high salary players competing.
DeMar DeRozan (at TOR – $7,900 on DK; $7,400 on FD): DeRozan has been consistent as of late and now he returns to Toronto for the first time since they won a title. It won’t be quite as emotional as last year but it will be emotional. Expect DeRozan to use that as some fuel as he goes up against a banged up Raptors squad. He’s not going to hurt you and the ceiling is higher given his recent run and the circumstances of the matchup.
