HBO’s captivating drama of good and evil walking hand in hand through the Vatican halls from director Paolo Sorrentino is back for another season appropriately titled The New Pope.
Fans everywhere could not stop talking about the critically acclaimed first season of HBO’s controversial drama The Young Pope. Now, the wait is finally over as we anticipate the followup to the hit HBO show. (It’s been almost four years since the last series aired in 2016!) The series starring Jude Law was as unexpected as it was riveting, and it makes sense that HBO would renew this tale for another magnificent chapter called The New Pope.
Last time we left, the Vatican’s poor Pope Pius XIII was in a coma, and the Papacy cannot be without its Bishop. Someone needs to sit on the chair of St. Peter, and to replace Lenny Belardo will be John Malkovich as the charming aristocrat Sir John Brannox, aka Pope John Paul III. But when Pius wakes up, things get a bit tricky moving forward.
These two titans will battle it out for the coveted religious throne, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the end. This exciting follow-up to Paolo Sorrentino’s masterpiece will also guest star Sharon Stone and Marilyn Manson. Given what’s to come, it would be blasphemy if fans were to miss a single moment of The New Pope.
Below is all the information you need to watch HBO’s The New Pope online.
Here is how HBO officially describes the series:
"The series picks up where The Young Pope left off, with Jude Law’s Lenny Belardo, known as Pope Pius XIII, in a coma. Following an unpredictable and mysterious turn of events, Secretary of State Voiello (Silvio Orlando) succeeds in having Sir John Brannox (John Malkovich), a charming and sophisticated moderate English aristocrat, placed on the papal throne, adopting the name John Paul III.The new pope seems ideal, but he conceals secrets and has a certain fragility, and Voiello immediately understands that it will not be easy to replace the charismatic Pius XIII. Hanging between life and death, Lenny Belardo has become a Saint, with thousands now idolizing him, fueling the contrast between fundamentalisms.Meanwhile, the Church is under attack from external threats and scandals striking the symbols of Christianity and risking irreversibly devastating the hierarchies. As always, however, in the Vatican, nothing is what it seems. Good and evil proceed arm-in-arm towards history, and to reach the showdown, we must wait for the events to take their course."
