Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers were dominant in the 2020 National Championship game, handing Trevor Lawrence his first loss in two years. Here’s the best Twitter reactions from the night.
The Tigers were going to win the 2020 National Championship one way or another, and in a dominant 42-25 victory Monday night, it was the LSU Tigers who proved to be the better team.
Though it took some time for Heisman winner Joe Burrow and his team to wake up in the final game of the College Football Playoff, once they did, there was nothing the Clemson Tigers could do to slow them down. Finishing with 463 yards and five touchdowns in an incredible performance, Burrow broke college football’s single-season touchdown record while leading LSU to a national championship.
His connection with Ja’Marr Chase was especially unstoppable, as the sophomore wide receiver racked up a whopping 221 yards on nine receptions for two touchdowns. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 110 yards on 16 carries, while Ed Orgeron’s defense held Clemson to just eight second-half points.
With the win over their fellow Tigers, LSU handed Trevor Lawrence his first loss in two years. It was a rare off night for Clemson’s quarterback, who only managed 234 yards on 18-of-37 throwing with zero touchdowns.
Clemson struck first with a first-quarter touchdown, and they were tied 7-7 heading into the second quarter. Unfortunately, that proved to be the decisive quarter for the National Championship, as LSU rattled off 21 points to Clemson’s seven, taking a commanding 28-17 lead into the break.
Clemson struck first in the third quarter, scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion to pull within four, but they would go scoreless the rest of the game as LSU piled on two more second-half touchdowns.
In the wake of Burrow’s legendary performance to cap off a perfect 15-0 season, Twitter (as always) had quite a lot to add. Here are some of the most vital tweets from the 2020 National Championship game:

4 a week -- unreal.
7 wins over teams ranked in Top 10 at gametime. A Heisman winning QB that led an unstoppable offense and a defense that played its best when the games mattered the most. @LSUfootball a most deserving national champion.

#LSU has won a fourth national championship and a third in 17 years, remarkably each under a different head coach: Nick Saban (2003), Les Miles (2007) and Ed Orgeron (2019).

Offenses have advanced so much in recent years that I don't wanna say it'll be a long time before we see something like this LSU team again. Might see it next year. But damn this unit was something else.

Joe Burrow's father retiring so he can travel to see every game played his last year in college and he turns in arguably the best single season by anyone with a Heisman and national title. That stuff makes me wanna cry. Wish I could call my dad. Damn. Football.

While the game wasn’t quite as exciting as advertised, Joe Burrow lived up to the hype and then some with an unforgettable performance to finish off a storybook season for the LSU Tigers.
