2020 NFL mock draft: Chargers lock onto Justin Herbert
By Brad Weiss
The Denver Broncos may have found something in quarterback Drew Lock, who stepped in as a rookie and led his team to victories in four of their last five games. This past week, the Broncos made a change at offensive coordinator, bringing in Pat Shurmur, so you know they feel they have the right guy under center moving forward.
On the other side of the ball, the Broncos need some help on all three levels, though they do have a pretty solid team overall. In the secondary, they could afford to utilize their first round pick on the best true safety in this draft class, selecting LSU’s Grant Delpit with the No. 15 overall pick.
As we saw on Monday night, Delpit is not only an incredible center fielder, but he is also a guy who can come up and play in the box, and make plays in the backfield. In addition, he is not afraid to come up and make the big hits over the middle, something this Broncos defense was lacking at times last season.
The Atlanta Falcons made a one-year commitment to head coach Dan Quinn a few weeks back, and he is going to have to turn this thing around if he wants to keep his job past 2020. The team did a nice job of winning a bunch of games late in the season, which in turn helped him keep his job, but they have to take a step forward this Fall.
Looking at this roster, they have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, so it is actually a bit shocking that they ended the season outside of the playoffs. The NFC South was down this season outside of the New Orleans Saints, and in 2020 the Falcons are a few pieces away from getting back to the top of the division.
One area where the team continues to struggle, even though they have talent there, is on the edge, so bringing in A.J. Epenesa from Iowa makes a lot of sense at No. 16 overall. He has the speed, power, and agility to get around offensive tackles, and would be a nice compliment to guys like Vic Beasley and Takkarist McKinley in the Falcons blitz packages moving forward.
