1. Buck Showalter

Back in early October, Showalter went on WFAN Radio to express his interest in the Mets’ managerial job right after Mickey Callaway was fired (but he did not campaign for it, mind you).

"Yeah, I’d like to be talked about it, but I’m not going to campaign about it, and I’m real uncomfortable even talking about it with you now because there’s a lot of good people out there and they’re going to make a good decision. They’ll have reasons why and why not, and, you know, I respect that."

Showalter seemed to be a more serious candidate for the Philadelphia Phillies’ job when it came open, and just this week he interviewed with the Astros two days after they fired AJ Hinch. So he pretty clearly wants back in to a dugout somewhere.

Showalter has been successful at all of his managerial stops. He’s also familiar with the pressure attached to the New York market, as he managed the early 1990s, pre-dynasty Yankees. If the Astros don’t hire him quickly, and they may not as they flesh out their own managerial search, a path would be paved for Showalter to land with the Mets. If he still wants to talk about the job of course.
