Ryan Tannehill: What tier of fantasy quarterback is he in 2020?

Assuming Ryan Tannehill returns to the Tennessee Titans in 2020, what kind of fantasy quarterback could we be looking at heading into next season?

Ryan Tannehill had a fantastic first season with the Tennessee Titans. The former starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins went 7-3 as the Tennessee starter, completing 70.3 percent of his passes for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. Assuming he comes back to the Titans in 2020, what kind of fantasy football season are we looking out of him next year?

The Fantasy Footballers have you covered. Jason Moore points out that Tannehill was the QB3 during the games he started for the Titans. Can he hit that level again next year? No, but he does have a ton of talent around him should it be in the cards for him to return to Nashville on a new contract.

Moore thinks that with weapons around him like wide receiver A.J. Brown, as well as his ability to make plays as a runner, Tannehill has a decent shot at being a QB10 entering next season. Andy Holloway and Mike Wright feel he’s more of a QB12, but that has more to do with the names of the other quarterbacks who would be vying for gotta-start-no-matter-what designations.

Admittedly, this is the best we’ve ever seen Tannehill play in his NFL career. He was never this accurate when he was with the Dolphins. That being said, when he had a decent offensive coach to work with, such as his former head coach Adam Gase, Tannehill proved he could lead a solid team to the postseason. He seems to have a good thing going now with Arthur Smith.

The big thing we have to remember here is so much of Tannehill’s success this season has been on plays that have accentuated the play of superstar running back Derrick Henry. As with Tannehill, Henry too will be hitting unrestricted free agency this spring. Though Henry is a prime candidate to be franchise tagged, it’s not a guarantee that both offensive players return to the Titans.

Ultimately, Tannehill looks like a late-round fantasy quarterback heading into next season. There are players with more marquee names that will end up getting picked ahead of him next August. As long as Tannehill has an opportunity to start somewhere, he should be worth using a fantasy draft pick on. Perhaps he’s good enough to start at QB1 on your team next fantasy season?
