NBA Trade Deadline 2020: 10 players who could use a change of scenery
3. Dewayne Dedmon
Speaking of buried vets who can help a contender, Dewayne Dedmon is another prime example. It’s no secret he wants out after publicly requesting a trade from the Sacramento Kings, which earned him a $50,000 fine.
The Kings’ league-worst playoff drought isn’t helping matters, but this is a team that should be devoting the majority of its minutes to its younger cornerstones. That means Marvin Bagley and Harry Giles should be eating up minutes, which doesn’t even include the rest of the frontcourt logjam with Nemanja Bjelica, Richaun Holmes, Anthony Tolliver and even Harrison Barnes as a small-ball 4.
Dedmon is only seeing 13.8 minutes a night, averaging 4.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game on 21.1 percent shooting from downtown — a precipitous fall from the 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in 25.1 minutes per game on 38.2 percent 3-point shooting that he averaged with the Atlanta Hawks last season. This 30-year-old veteran needs a new team as much as anyone.
