60. 1964 Detroit Lions

The Lions have changed very little since adding a logo to the silver helmet. The ’64 team was lucky enough to have the double navy stripe down the middle with no outrageous borers on the lion itself.

59. 1960 Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh had some different looks in the early ’60s, and this deserves a spot on our list. The helmets are simple with the numbers on each side of a gold face, with the black stripe down the middle. The Steelers didn’t have much success, though, and eventually changed before becoming a dynasty.

58. 1967 Los Angeles Rams

The Rams never should have left the blue and gold behind. Yet they did throughout the 1960s and early ’70s, and while the white isn’t bad, it just doesn’t have the same pop. Still, it’s clean and straightforward, and that counts for something.

57. 1966 Denver Broncos

The only crime here is that we couldn’t find a color photo including the helmets. The Broncos originally had yellow and brown uniforms, but eventually ditched them for the blue and orange. This is one of the more unique looks in the league’s history, especially with the cartoonish bronco jumping around on an orange helmet. Awesome stuff.

56. 1971 Washington Redskins

The Redskins only wore these for two seasons, but they remain a little bit of a cult classic. Washington had adorned its helmets with a spear or a long feather down the middle for years, but changed everything in 1970 when it put a big “R” within a circle. The helmet was also yellow with a single red stripe. In 1972, they changed to the current scheme and reached the Super Bowl.

55. 2001 New England Patriots

The Patriots barely changed their uniforms at all from the mid 1960s through the 1992 season. Then, they couldn’t stop making changes. Finally, New England figured out what it was searching for. Doesn’t hurt when you win six Super Bowls with them.

54. 1962 Houston Oilers

Going old school here. You don’t often see a color photo of these uniforms, but this one is a beauty. The blue helmet with a white rig, set off by red numbers on an otherwise plain white jersey. Not a bad way to start the franchise.

53. 1989 Phoenix Cardinals

The Cardinals didn’t change their helmets upon arriving in Phoenix in 1988, but the jersey did get some tweaks. Check out the State of Arizona flag on the sleeve and the additional cardinal faces above them. Add in the thick stripes on the pants, and it’s a fun design.

52. 1971 Atlanta Falcons

These are simple yet classy. The Falcons are rocking their original red tops, socks and helmets along with that beautiful stripe on the crown. There’s nothing incredibly memorable about the look, but it comes together quite well.

51. 1981 Cincinnati Bengals

When this uniform came out, the reaction was a mixed of wide eyes and laughter. Cincinnati was really trying to look like Bengals, and the experiment worked. The team went from a franchise without many signature moments to the AFC champions in a matter of months.
