NFL uniform power rankings: The top 100 of all-time
30. 1969 New York Giants
Fred Dryer’s helmet just screams of a bygone era. The Giants have tried out a few different combinations over the decades, but this is a classic. The “ny” on the helmet disappeared for a while when in 1976, the team moved to New Jersey. In this photo, you see the lack of striping on the sleeves and the huge numbers on the front of the helmet.
29. 1984 Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins’ original look didn’t feature the striping on the sleeves that we see here, and the pants were striped more as well. It screamed 1980s, and when you think of that decade? You think of Miami. You can bet Don Johnson loved these bad boys.
28. 1985 Chicago Bears
The Bears have remained an iconic look throughout the years. This is the second of three Chicago jerseys on the list, and it’s differentiated from the Dick Butkus era due to the “GSH” patch on the left sleeve in memory of George Halas. The other main difference? The “C” on the helmet is orange instead of white.
27. 1962 Dallas Cowboys
There’s something about the blue and white together. If you go piece by piece, these jerseys are extremely basic. The star has no outline. The stripes on the pants are normal and the sleeves are coated like a cape. Still, when it comes together, it’s fantastic.
26. 1985 New England Patriots
Pat Patriots says hello. New England never, ever should have left Pat behind Flying Elvis, even if we’ve seen title after title in the new uniforms. These were classics, and remain so.
25. 1969 New Orleans Saints
The Saints have always had good uniforms, but they got it best the first time. The fleur-de-lis was larger on the helmet in the 1960s and early ’70s, while the gold was more of a true brown. Heck of a way to come into the league.
24. 1980 Atlanta Falcons
Why the Falcons ever moved on from red helmets and uniforms remains a mystery. And a uniform crime. Maybe there was too much losing, but these duds were spectacular.
23. 1957 Los Angeles Rams
The Rams were the first team to put a logo on their helmets. The tradition started when halfback Fred Gehrke painted horns on his helmet in 1948 before doing the same for his teammates. While not every team caught on right away, most franchises began decorating their helmets within the following 10-15 years. The only remaining holdout? The Browns.
22. 1991 Detroit Lions
Detroit hasn’t changed its jersey radically throughout the years, but the Barry Sanders era saw the best iteration. The silver and blue goes beautifully together, especially when the team got into the sun and out of the draconian Silverdome.
21. 1971 Minnesota Vikings
Another NFC North (Central) team that has stayed relatively true to its history. The Vikings have no reason to change up the look, with the purple and gold being one of the classier uniforms in the league. From Fran Tarkenton and Chuck Foreman to the Purple People Eaters, this is a winner.
