New York Knicks

Sending out: Dennis Smith Jr. (WAS), Marcus Morris (SAC), Allonzo Trier (MIL), 2020 first-round pick (CLE)

Bringing in: Kyle Kuzma (LAL), Kelly Olynyk (MIA)

The relative plausibility of this trade depends a lot on how highly you regard the decision-making apparatus of the Knicks. They’re giving up what could be a top-five pick this year along with their best trade assets — Marcus Morris, an expiring who could help a contender, and Dennis Smith Jr., a talented young guard who hasn’t found his fit yet. In return they get Kelly Olynyk for some veteran stability and Kyle Kuzma as a potential star to help build around.

If you think Kuzma is on his way to stardom than this might seem like a good deal for the Knicks. Roll into next season with Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randle, Kyle Kuzma, R.J. Barrett and Frank Ntilikina, with Kevin Knox and Kelly Olynyk coming off the bench. Hopefully that group starts gelling towards competitiveness with two first draft picks looming in 2021. Of course, if you think Kuzma is vastly overrated that makes this deal less appealing and, unfortunately, probably more plausible for the Knicks.
