San Antonio Spurs

Sending out: LaMarcus Aldridge (CLE), Trey Lyles (WAS), 2020 first-round pick (DET)

Bringing in: Jonas Valanciunas (MEM), Aaron Gordon (ORL)

It feels reductive to constantly assume that the Spurs can take any player with any amount of talent in any sort of unique package and figure out how to help them be the best version of themselves. And, yet, somehow, it seems more plausible than any of the other scenarios. So, here we imagine lump-of-clay Aaron Gordon getting the Spurs treatment — maybe learning how to shoot, maybe just getting transformed into the destructive defensive dynamo we all imagined him as.

There is still DeMar DeRozan to be reconciled with, and two more years of Valanciunas at nearly $30 million. But this trade helps shuffle the Spurs towards a new era with a 25-and-under core of Gordon, Derrick White, Dejounte Murray, Jakob Poeltl and Lonnie Walker. That group alone makes for an interesting starting lineup, along with whatever other gems this organization unearths along the way.
