Jake Fromm had an excellent career with the Georgia Bulldogs but decided to go pro after his junior year. He reflects on that decision at Super Bowl 54.
Jake from State Farm, more like Jake Fromm State Farm. Yes, the former star quarterback of the Georgia Bulldogs was down at Super Bowl 54 down in Miami on behalf of State Farm. Fromm won three SEC East championships at Georgia, winning the SEC as a freshman in 2017, coming up one play short of winning Georgia’s first national title since 1980.
Fromm spoke with FanSided‘s Mark Carman about his decision to go pro after what was a sensational three-year career at the University of Georgia. “It was a tough one,” said Fromm. “It was something that kind of really struck my heart a bit. You know, being from the state of Georgia. So many things I wanted to accomplish there as being part of the football program.”
“But it was tough. The NFL was always a dream [of mine]. I’ve never prayed about anything harder than I’ve ever prayed about this one. And I just had a gut feeling the last five days up until the decision, and now I’m here. I’m three or four weeks into this process. I have no doubts. I’m here taking it on one day at a time and trying to get better any way I can.”
Fromm is expected to be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2020 NFL Draft. With six tremendous quarterbacks entering the draft (Fromm, LSU’s Joe Burrow, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Oregon’s Justin Herbert, Washington’s Jacob Eason and Utah State’s Jordan Love), this has a chance to be the best quarterback draft class since the iconic one back in 1983.
Fromm says he’s patterned his game after New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. If he can be half as good as the future Hall of Famer, then Fromm will have himself an incredible NFL career. It’s bittersweet to see a player so beloved by Dawg Nation leave school a year early, but he’s mentally tough enough and competitive enough to succeed at the next level for sure.
