The NFL presents the FanDuel/DFS community with the game of the year! Let’s take a look at Super Bowl LIV from a fantasy football perspective!

Before I dive into my FanDuel player selections for Super Bowl LIV let’s briefly review the rules for the FanDuel single game contest.

The rules for the single game contest are rather easy to understand. You have $60,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your lineup’s MVP. It is important to note that the MVP receives 1.5 times the standard FanDuel points.

In direct contrast to your MVP, the remaining four players in your lineup will only receive the standard Fanduel points. Having stated that, it is imperative that you select the correct player for your MVP position if you hope to win a FanDuel single game contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the single game contest I recommend that you check out the FanDuel website for more details.

Now let’s shift gears to what I love doing the most! Here are my player selections for Super Bowl LIV!

MVP-Patrick Mahomes $16,000

I don’t think many football fans would argue that Patrick Mahomes is an exceptionally talented NFL quarterback. As a matter of fact, I am sure a large number of educated football fans would say that Mahomes is currently the best quarterback in the league. However, a certain segment of the fantasy football community may have concerns with Mahomes in the MVP slot for this football game.

I can just see it now, certain DFS players citing the fact that the San Francisco 49ers defense finished the 2019 season as the “best” defense against the pass as a valid reason to not use Patrick Mahomes in the MVP slot. Let me just say this, those that think you should fade Mahomes in the MVP slot are just flat out wrong.

Let me dive into that “number one” ranked 49ers pass defense for a second. Statistically that statement is accurate as the 49ers only allowed an average of 169.2 passing yards a game in the regular season. That is nice on paper. However, my question is who did they play this season?

Well, let’s take a look at a sample size of San Francisco’s first eight games of the 2019 season to see the quality of offenses the team faced in that time span. Quite frankly, the teams that the 49ers played in the first eight games of the regular season were NOT good. More specifically, those eight teams cumulatively finished the 2019 regular season with an average offensive efficiency rating of 25th in the NFL. Keep in mind that the NFL has 32 teams, so 25th in the league is awful to say the least.

Where am I going here you may ask? Well, it’s simple really. The offense that San Francisco will face in Super Bowl LIV will be without a doubt the best unit the 49ers have faced this season. Let me be more specific. The Kansas City Chiefs offense finished the regular season with the fifth most total passing yards (4,498) and the fifth most total passing touchdowns (30) in the league. Clearly, the Chiefs are one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.

In summary, I think Patrick Mahomes will finish the game on Sunday with a high fantasy point total. Frankly, I am just not overly concerned with the San Francisco secondary. Having said that, for me, Mahomes is without a doubt the best play in the MVP slot on this single game slate.
