8. Mahomes dials up a deep ball to Mecole Hardman

We’re going back to the Chiefs-Ravens Week 3 matchup for yet another moment of Mahomes’ brilliance. It’s important to remember for context here that the Chiefs had to play this game without the services of Tyreek Hill, who was out after injuring his hamstring against the Jaguars in Week 1.

Hill’s absence created an opportunity for Hardman, who has the same kind of electrifying speed as Hill — a trait the Chiefs covet. That speed was put to good use on this 1st-and-10 play from the Kansas City 17, with the Chiefs already up 14-6 late in the second quarter.

Mahomes dropped back to throw and delivered a dime to Hardman around midfield, and he took it the rest of the way for an 83-yard touchdown. That score gave the Chiefs a 21-6 lead, putting the Ravens in a huge hole.

7. Mahomes makes a ridiculous sidearm throw against the Seahawks

This play takes us back to Week 16 of the 2018 season when the Chiefs were on the road to take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. It’s important to remember Mahomes’ background as a baseball player from here on out, with Mahomes’ days as a shortstop setting him up well to make unorthodox throws.

One of those throws came on this drive, which you can skip to about 15 seconds into the video to see. Facing a 1st-and-10 from the Seattle 25, Mahomes scrambled out of the pocket and made an absolutely ridiculous sidearm throw to Charcandrick West for a touchdown.

The degree of difficulty on the throw, which came with Mahomes in motion and not fully set, was extremely high. I am convinced his baseball background was a huge asset to this play.
