Ike Taylor ‘100 percent’ thinks Mike Tomlin is a Hall of Fame head coach

Perhaps one of the most miraculous statistics in all of professional sports is that the Pittsburgh Steelers have had three head coaches over in the last 50 years. It’s a testament to the type of organization the Steelers have but it’s also a massive endorsement of the head coaches who have held that post over the last five decades of football.

Two of those three coaches are Hall of Famers. Bill Cowher is part of this year’s Hall of Fame class while Chuck Noll was inducted into Canton back in 1993. Former Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor thinks there will be a trifecta and that Mike Tomlin is bound for football immortality.

It’s more than the record and tenure that Tomlin has put together in Pittsburgh that makes him a Hall of Fame head coach. Taylor points out that his former coach is one of the smartest football people he knows, and his ability to teach the game is what has made the Steelers so good under his watch.

“High football IQ,” Taylor told FanSided’s Mark Carman. “Coach Tomlin made football, from a football player’s standpoint, he simplified it. So I can go from thinking about it to actually playing.”

Tomlin’s case for Canton isn’t a hard one to make, as Taylor’s endorsement of his former coach is echoed by just about everyone Tomlin has touched in his career. While he’ll one day have a bust in the Hall, his career is far from over and his legacy is only going to get stronger the longer he remains in the NFL.
