4. 49ers’ Tight End George Kittle

The tight end jinx is real for the Super Bowl MVP, and it would be neat to see it end this year. While Travis Kelce is a contender for the Chiefs, the bigger threat to snap the tight end curse plays for the 49ers.

There may not be a more logical heir to Rob Gronkowski’s throne as the league’s most terrifying tight end than George Kittle, who is a matchup nightmare. Kittle offers incredible burst after the catch, allowing him to take short passes and take them the distance.

While the tight end is often hindered in the MVP chase by the fact the quarterback also picks up those stats, Kittle is likely a far bigger name than Jimmy Garoppolo. The 49ers will likely try to establish the run, and Kittle should also be a factor there as he is a very capable blocker.

Odds are that the 49ers will need to score points to stay with the Chiefs, and their most explosive pass catcher is George Kittle. If Garoppolo has to feed Kittle early and often, he could rack up some serious stats throughout the game.

Kittle could end up with a Julian Edelman type line, and that 10 for 141 performance was good enough for Edelman to win the MVP. A memorable play, like the one Kittle had to help the 49ers top the New Orleans Saints during the regular season, would also be a help.
