2. LB Kyle Van Noy

The biggest weakness for the Kansas City Chiefs on defense is the inside linebacker position. Reggie Ragland is a pending free agent while Darron Lee, who the Chiefs traded a draft pick to the Jets for, was inactive during the playoff run.

An upgrade at the inside linebacker spot could bring the Chiefs’ defense to another level, and this is definitely a position worth splurging on. The best fit for the Chiefs here would be former Patriot Kyle Van Noy, who could not only strengthen the Chiefs but significantly weaken one of their biggest rivals in the AFC.

Bill Belichick pulled an absolute Houdini act when he acquired Van Noy from the Detroit Lions for a late round draft pick a few years ago. Van Noy wasn’t utilized properly in Detroit, but he became a Swiss army knife in Belichick’s defense, playing all over the field and wrecking the game for the opposition.

The Chiefs could certainly use that kind of weapon in their base defense, and coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has the creative chops to bring the best out of Van Noy. The 2019 season was Van Noy’s finest yet as he recorded 6.5 sacks, racked up 56 tackles, and recovered two fumbles.

Van Noy may also be looking for a significant pay day, so the Chiefs would have to pony up to beat the other teams interested in his services, like the Patriots or the New York Giants. It may cost a pretty penny to land Van Noy, but it would be well worth it in the end.
