Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State

After seeing the impact Deebo Samuel made in his rookie season, Shanahan would likely be very intrigued by Aiyuk, who possesses many of the same qualities as the Niners’ 2019 second-round pick.

At 6-foot-0 and 201 pounds, Aiyuk has a well-built frame. Like Samuel, he excels at breaking tackles and picking up yardage after the catch.

Excellent in the return game, Aiyuk can stretch defenses downfield. While he is raw as a route-runner and could serve to improve his aggressiveness at the catch point, the former Sun Devil has the skill set Shanahan looks for in his receivers. All this while bringing the added bonus of special teams value.

It remains to be seen whether the 49ers will bring Emmanuel Sanders back and Dante Pettis may be on the way out after spending most of 2019 in Shanahan’s doghouse.

The 49ers have spent a lot of high picks on receivers. However, if Shanahan falls in love with Aiyuk’s obvious potential, he may convince them to use another on the position.
