Who could the Miami Dolphins select in the 2020 NFL Draft? Here’s an idea of what’s possible in this seven round mock.

It is going to be a big offseason for the Miami Dolphins.

After a very solid 5-11 finish, there is excitement building in Miami for good reason. Brian Flores looks to be the answer at head coach, and the Dolphins head into the 2020 NFL Draft with a plethora of selections, not to mention a ton of cap space.

Getting to free agency first, Miami will be able to pursue some big names like Byron Jones, Brandon Scherff, and potentially Jadeveon Clowney. A lot of that will clear up their needs heading into April.

It’s likely that the Dolphins will dictate a lot of the draft, and much of that surrounds what they will do regarding the quarterback position. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be back for another season, a smart move for the front office, but he’s obviously not the future. It’s likely they will target a quarterback early, and we know who the favorite is (we’ll get to that).

Apart from that, this roster has a lot of holes and it’s up to the Dolphins to fill them and get this train on track. Let’s take a look at who they could select in the draft.

Quarterback. Alabama. 1. player. Pick Analysis. 59. Scouting Report. Tua Tagovailoa

The  Dolphins have been linked with Tua Tagovailoa since football season started, and it comes to fruition. Tua has some concerns regarding injuries, but it seems telling he entered the draft this year despite that. If everything checks out in the coming weeks, it may take a trade up to secure Tua.

The good news is the Dolphins can get that done with their capital. Miami can redshirt Tua in the 2020 season and watch him take over in 2021 with his accuracy, mobility and leadership skills.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LSU. player. 59. EDGE. K'Lavon Chaisson. 1

It’s about finding impact players in the trenches after securing your quarterback of the future. Andrew Van Ginkel led the Dolphins in sacks in 2019, so finding an elite edge defender is key. K’Lavon Chaisson can be that guy. He’s got a great first step off the edge along with very good bend. Chaisson also has improved with his rush counters and is an excellent run defender. He checks all the boxes here at No. 18.

player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Offensive Tackle. Houston. Josh Jones. 1. 59

The Dolphins missed out on the top four tackles in this mock, a scenario that’s likely to happen in the first round. So, they start the run on the second tier here by selecting Houston’s Josh Jones. While Jones has some work to do with his hand placement and pad level, he’s a mobile tackle and a violent finisher at the point of attack, and shows promise to develop into a quality starter.
