6. Ryan Tannehill

The most intriguing player on this list may be Ryan Tannehill, who was so disregarded by the Miami Dolphins they traded him to the Tennessee Titans for fourth and seventh-round picks. Tannehill was brought in to back up Marcus Mariota but supplanted him early in the season, throwing 22 touchdowns against six interceptions and taking the Titans to within 60 minutes of the Super Bowl.

The remarkable year earned Tannehill the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award, and he has indicated that he wants to remain in Tennessee for another year. The Titans, who don’t have a true long term answer under center, could definitely do worse than letting Tannehill lead them while they search for their next franchise quarterback.

5. Drew Brees

In terms of pure ability, Drew Brees is arguably the most effective quarterback on this list right now. Even at age 40, Brees was one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, throwing 27 touchdowns against four interceptions while completing over 74 percent of his passes and leading the Saints to a 13-3 record before getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Vikings.

The only reason Brees isn’t higher on the list is because there is still a significant chance he may retire, with several broadcast networks already reaching out to him about becoming a lead analyst on game telecasts. Even if Brees decides to play another year, it is extremely unlikely he would leave New Orleans.
