2020 NFL Draft: Matching offensive linemen to teams in the first round
With football season over, we now turn to the 2020 NFL Draft. The class is full of talented offensive linemen, and FanSided has played matchmaker.
With a fun season officially done, all the attention now officially turns to the 2020 NFL Draft.
After years of weaker groups at the position, the offensive line has made a comeback.
Blockers are like pass-rushers and wide receivers. You can never have too many studs.
As a result, there are a surprisingly large amount of teams that I feel could take an offensive lineman early in the draft.
When the New York Giants signed Nate Solder, they thought they had found the answer to their blindside blocking problems.
They were wrong.
Solder gave up 11 sacks during the season. That’s second-most in the entire league. This contributed to the fumbling problems of rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.
The best solution, given Solder’s big contract, might be to move him to right tackle and entrust the protection to Andrew Thomas, the star tackle from Georgia.
Thomas is easily the best tackle prospect we’ve seen in quite some time. He’s worthy of a top-five selection and can start Week 1.
Alternatively, he can begin at right tackle and take over eventually when Solder retires or is cut, but the Giants can’t afford to see their franchise quarterback battered again.
Unless they see Solder’s season as an anomaly, Thomas to the Giants looks like a dream fit.
