Jared Pinkney. Pick Analysis. TE. Vanderbilt. 93. player. 887. Scouting Report

This is another incredibly high-upside pick. The Titans don’t necessarily need a tight end. Jonnu Smith showed some flashes in his third year. The Titans are only three years removed from taking him in the third round, so it may seem odd to take another tight end this high in the draft.

However, Jared Pinkney has a chance to be an extreme value. He’s hurting himself at the Senior Bowl and after a rough season with Vanderbilt this past season. Pro Football Focus once had him ranked as the best tight end in the draft, but that ranking fell dramatically. Mel Kiper Jr. still has him as his second-best tight end. However, others don’t even have him in their top 100 players.

There’s a chance that a team could fall in love with him and take him earlier than this, but we actually think he’s going to be available here. Pinkney went from 50 receptions in his junior season to 20 in his senior year.

There were reasons for his statistical drop off. Vanderbilt got a new quarterback and offensive coordinator. A lot of his issues may be from external factors that were outside of his control.

We know this isn’t a need for the Titans, but taking the best talent available is how a team turns a run into a contender. Pinkney could give the Titans a one-two punch that would make the rest of the AFC South jealous.
