DraftKings PGA – WGC Mexico Picks

10,800 Justin Thomas

I did not have any Justin Thomas for his missed cut last week, and I have no conviction to fade him again. The price is fair, and his ownership should be manageable. He is one of the best golfers in the world, and he has been playing good golf, despite his poor performance last week. He held a 54-hole lead at the WGC Mexico in 2017 and lost in a playoff in 2018. Thomas ranks 1st in the field in DK points at Chapultepec, is 1st in the field in SG: Approach, and ranks 2nd in the field in birdie or better gained.

8,700 Paul Casey

Paul Casey played some solid golf last week at Riviera. He faded towards the end of his round on Sunday, but still finished in the top-20. Casey has had success at Chapultepec, ranking 8th in the field in DK scoring at this event since 2017. Casey is known as an elite ball-striker, but his putter typically fails him. However, on these Poa greens Casey is 11th in the field in SG: Putting. The water must have a different effect on Casey. He ranks 14th in the field in BOB over his past 12 rounds. Play him this week, and I will consider him as my one-and-done pick.

8,600 Sergio Garcia

The fact that Sergio tee’d it up this weekend at the Genesis Invitational is a huge confidence builder. His game was okay, gaining off-the-tee, around the greens, and on approach for the week. If he didn’t lose 4 strikes on the greens his paycheck would be significantly larger. Garcia finished T37 at the Genesis in 2019 and bounced back with a T6 the following week at the WGC Mexico. Here is hoping that 2020 T-37 is a good moniker of success this week. He ranks 5th in DK scoring at Chapultepec, and checks a lot of boxes this week. He is an excellent ball-striker who hits those approaches high and tight.
