This week, the PGA Tour presents the Draftkings/DFS community with the Puerto Rico Open. Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!

Before I dive into my Draftkings player selections let’s take a brief look at the the golf course the field will play and review the key statistics that I will be focusing on for this week’s event.

The Puerto Rico Open will be played at the Coco Beach Golf and Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The golf course is a par 72 that measures 7,506 yards. This track offers rather wide fairways with minimal rough and large green complexes. It should be noted that the both the fairways and the greens offer Paspalum grass.

Paspalum is a very common type of grass used on coastal golf courses. However, only a few PGA tournaments currently use golf courses with this type of grass. Having stated that, I think It is a good idea from a DFS perspective to identify golfers in this week’s field that excel putting on Paspalum greens. Additionally, I would look for golfers in this tournament’s field that perform well on coastal tracks. Keep those things in mind as you compose player pools for your Draftkings lineups.

The key statistics that I will be focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained approach, birdie or better percentage, and putts per GIR.

Here are my Draftkings player selections for the 2020 Puerto Rico Open!

Scott Brown $9,400

If you are looking for a golfer in this week’s field that fits the narrative of a course horse look no further because I have found your man. That man’s name is Scott Brown. Brown has quite simply played some outstanding golf in his previous appearances at the Puerto Rico Open. Let me be more specific. Brown has played this event seven times since 2012. In that seven tournament span, Brown has five top ten finishes, including a win in 2013.

It should also be noted that Brown finished second in last week’s Genesis Invitational. I think it’s important for me to also point out that the Puerto Rico Open’s field of talent is definitely a step down in class from last week’s event in Los Angeles. The Genesis Invitational had nine of the top ten golfers in the world in the field. This week’s event in Puerto Rico will not have a single player in the field that ranks inside the top 100 golfers in the world.

In summary, if Brown can perform at a high level in a golf tournament with a stacked field of talent like the Genesis Invitational, than he should have no problem continuing to play great golf in this week’s event.

Patrick Rodgers $9,600

He finished ninth at the Farmers Insurance Open in January. Rodgers also finished 21st at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open.

Cameron Davis $9,300

Davis has four straight top 38 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a ninth place result at the Sony Open last month.

Tim Wilkinson $7,600

He has two top 25 finishes in his last three events, including a 21st place result at the American Express in January. Additionally, Wilkinson finished 17th at the 2017 Puerto Rico Open.

Tyler McCumber $7,400

McCumber finished 21st at the Farmers Insurance Open last month.

Michael Gligic $6,600

Gligic finished 28th at the Houston Open in September. He also finished 21st at the American Express in January.
