5. Inside Linebacker

The Broncos discovered a true gem at the inside linebacker position in Alexander Johnson, who came on after four games and had one of the best seasons for any inside linebacker.

Johnson’s productivity has opened up some options for the Broncos going forward, including with Todd Davis, who has a club option in 2020.

Davis carries a $6 million cap hit this year for Denver, but could provide them with $5 million in savings if he were released or traded.

Davis is a solid linebacker, so why would this position be an area of need? The Broncos, like many teams in the NFL, struggle to cover at the linebacker position. Both Todd Davis and Alexander Johnson excel in the trenches, but Davis struggles a bit in coverage.

The Broncos have a need for speed at the linebacker position and this year’s free agent group is very strong. They could also look to upgrade via the NFL Draft, where there are some versatile options in just about every round.
