6. Kyler Murray

Whenever you have a quarterback who is coming into the college football recruiting ranks listed at just 5-foot-10, the chances are his size is really going to hinder how high he’s valued as a recruit, especially as it pertains to the big Power 5 programs. Kyler Murray, however, was just too electric to ignore, despite his diminutive stature.

Coming out of Allen High School in Allen, TX in the 2015 recruiting cycle, Murray was a 5-star prospect and the No. 34 overall prospect in the country while also maintaining his status as the top-ranked dual-threat quarterback recruit in America. Thus, he landed at Texas A&M to play for the Aggies but, after his freshman season, he elected to transfer to Oklahoma.

While he sat behind Baker Mayfield in his first eligible season — understandable given Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy — Murray finally got his shot in 2018. And when he did, he showed everything he’d done in high school on a bigger stage. A big arm, pristine accuracy and an uncanny athletic ability as a runner, Murray was just as unstoppable for the Sooners as he was against high school competition.

Once he got the opportunity, there was no looking back. He won the Heisman Trophy, led Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff and became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft. While his NFL career is still ahead of him, he’s done nothing but wowed with his speed, arm and athleticism since his high school highlights, so there’s no reason to think more of the same isn’t coming.
