1. Anyone who can rush the passer

Markus Golden led the Giants with 10 sacks last season, but none of his teammates managed to notch a total above 4.5. Throw in the fact that advanced statistics show Golden’s total to be a little bit of a fluke and it’s clear New York needs to upgrade their pass rush this offseason.

In a perfect world, Gettleman could sit back at No. 4 and watch Chase Young fall to him. That isn’t going to happen. There’s no way Young lasts that long. That’s going to put New York in a tough spot when it comes to spending their first round pick on a pass rusher.

The good news for New York is that they can find a relatively easy upgrade at a number of different positions. Drafting a defensive end who can rush the passer would be great, but the Giants could also look to add a linebacker who can wreak havoc from the edge. That could easily be the way value and need meet for the Giants in the draft.

The prudent move for the Giants would be to secure two potential pass rushers. One in the draft and another add via free agency could do a lot to boost New York’s defense in 2020. That’s the only way this defense is going to improve. Expect Gettleman to do everything in his power to revamp his pass rush before the 2020 regular season kicks off.
