The internet came together to celebrate Alex Ovechkin’s historic 700th goal on Saturday. Here are the best reactions from around Hockey Twitter.
Alex Ovechkin has finally scored his 700th career goal! The moment is a cause for celebration, as Ovechkin has finally hit the milestone that only seven other NHLers have hit in their careers.
Ovechkin hit the No. 700 mark on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils after breaking a five-game goal scoring drought on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens. His 699th goal came against the Canadiens on Thursday in an overtime loss, but Ovechkin had to wait one more game to hit No. 700.
In the third period, with the Capitals trailing 2-1, Ovechkin unleashed his typical one-timer from the circle, tying the game for Washington and putting him into the record books in the process.

The only player to reach that mark in fewer games is Wayne Gretzky. pic.twitter.com/OWQHgDn1QH
Ovechkin still sits eighth overall in NHL history in goals scored with 700 on his career. Wayne Gretzky owns the record with 894 goals throughout his career, but Ovechkin has a legitimate chance of breaking the record should he continue to stay healthy and play through his mid-to-late 30s.
This season, Ovechkin has 42 goals in 60 games played, sitting one goal behind both David Pastrnak and Auston Matthews in the Rocket Richard race for the NHL’s best goal scorer of the season.
