DraftKings NBA picks February 22: Don’t donate, use Giannis
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA Power Forwards:
Best Bets:
Giannis Antetokounmpo ($11,200): There are a lot of good options out there tonight, but if you don’t use Giannis, you’re just donating. I’ll thank you in advance. Giannis pulverized the Sixers for 72.5 DraftKings points in that game in Milwaukee earlier this month. Forget the Christmas debacle. Both teams are in very different spots right now and the Sixers are on the road. You know Giannis was listening to Embiid run his mouth. Giannis is getting 70 tonight. Fade at your own risk.
Honorable Mention:
Robert Covington ($5,900): Utah is another one of those teams that I usually don’t go after up front, but with the Rockets’ full-blown escapade into positional ambiguity, it doesn’t really matter. Covington put up a solid 27.75 DraftKings points a couple of weeks ago on the Jazz. It’s apparent that RoCo is more comfortable in the flow of this offense since then. He should be able to easily hit 5x value.
Larry Nance ($5,700): The Cavs played Nance more than both Love and Drummond last night. If this is a trend that continues, he’ll be the only guy on that talented front worth playing. Maybe Bickerstaff is just throwing things out there to see what sticks. He may be alienating the vets, but who cares, right? J.B. is only being judged on wins, not feelings. Nance sticks. He has 75.5 DraftKings points over the last two games. Update: With Love out, I really like Nance for the price.
Thad Young ($5,600): I don’t really want to play Thad, but the Bulls are forcing my hand. None of their frontcourt cavalry is ready to ride in yet. That means Thad is going to play 35 minutes. He should be able to pick up value with that much court time. Did you see what Rui did to these guys last night? Thad could be that guy for the Bulls tonight.
Dark Horses:
Jae Crowder ($4,800): Sure, Crowder is a boring play. The Heat are a deep team that routinely run ten guys out there no matter how many guys are out for the game. They aren’t afraid to use anyone. That said, the only thing that has stopped Crowder as a member of the Heat is foul trouble. The Heat are still committed to playing Jones as well, but sometimes they just need Crowder out there. That is likely to be the case against a large Cleveland front tonight.
Jeff Green ($3,200): Houston dug up Green to throw into the hodgepodge, and it turned out to be a damn good idea. Green put up 24.5 DraftKings points in 24 minutes in his Houston debut. Is he going to nail four out of five threes every night? Doubtful, but Green showed that he still has some left in the tank and will be one of the more popular value plays of the night.
