4. Add depth at wide receiver

Marvin Jones has enjoyed a solid stay in the Motor City. The one-time member of the Cincinnati Bengals joined the Detroit Lions via free agency in 2016 and in 53 games with his newest employer he has totaled a combined 213 catches for 3,318 yards and 27 scores.

Jones was part of the team’s last playoff team in 2016 and this past season, was tied for second on the club with Danny Amendola with 62 catches – nine of those for touchdowns. But it’s worth noting that he’s missed a combined 10 games the past two years.

On the other hand, there’s three-year pro Kenny Golladay, who has emerged as one of the rising stars in the league. As a rookie, he totaled only 28 catches, three for scores, in 11 games. One year later, the 2017 third-round pick from Northern Illinois started to earn a little attention, totaling 70 receptions for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns in 15 appearances.

This past year, Golladay was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time after leading the Lions with 65 grabs, 1,190 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Speaking of Amendola, numerous outlets (including Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager) reported on Saturday that the veteran would be returning to the Lions in 2020 via a one-year deal. Those aforementioned 62 grabs went for 678 yards and just one score.

So what’s the issue? The cupboard is somewhat bare after this solid trio and perhaps the Lions could use some younger hands and perhaps one more experienced pro when it comes to this group. It’s not necessarily high on the priority list but something that bears a little consideration.
