2020 NFL Draft: Las Vegas Raiders 7-round mock
By Randy Gurzi
And once again, the Mack trade is mentioned. Las Vegas is on the clock for the second-straight pick as the Bears No. 81 selection is theirs — and it’s the final piece of the blockbuster trade. With this choice, Vegas goes after a new signal-caller in Jalen Hurts out of Oklahoma.
A natural leader, Hurts won it all with the Alabama Crimson Tide before lighting it up for the Sooners in 2019. His one season with Lincoln Riley really elevated his draft stock but he’s still a project in the NFL. For the Raiders, the question centers around who it is he will be backing up.
Derek Carr is the starter now but the rumors of him being shipped off won’t die. If that happens, Gruden could do what Gruden loves to do — which is to sign a veteran such as Tom Brady or Philip Rivers and get the most out of them. Or maybe he gets no one, loses Carr and then has to pick a quarterback earlier than this.
For now, this feels like the more likely option though as they get someone to groom behind whoever starts in 2020.
Back on the clock for their third pick in Round 3, the Raiders use the No. 91 overall selection (via the Seattle Seahawks) to land LSU guard Damien Lewis. Last season, the offensive line had its share of issues for the Raiders and it isn’t exactly as if Richie Incognito has a lot of time left to play in the NFL considering he will turn 37 years old this summer.
Lewis comes in as a player who can develop behind the veteran and eventually take over as one of the guards for Vegas.
