This week, The PGA Tour Tour returns to the United States to start the annual Florida swing! Lets’s take a look at this event from a DFS perspective!

Before I dive into my DFS/FanDuel player selections let’s take a look at the golf course the field will play and review the key statistics that I will be focusing on for this week’s Honda Classic.

The 2020 Honda Classic will be played on the Champions Course at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The Champions Course is a par 70 that measures 7,125 yards. This track features an abundance of water hazards. To be more specific, 15 holes will present water hazards to this week’s competitors! Jack Nicklaus re-designed this track in 1990. The course is known for the brutal “Bear Trap” that awaits players on holes 15-17.

The key statistics that I am focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), proximity to the hole from over 200 yards, strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained approach, and strokes gained around the green.

Here are my DFS/FanDuel player selections for the 2020 Honda Classic!

Gary Woodland $11,300

As I reviewed the statistical data from previous winners of this week’s event it became apparent to me early on that I needed to find golfers for my DFS/FanDuel lineups that have previously demonstrated the mental discipline to grind on a very difficult golf course. Additionally, the previous data indicated that I needed to identify golfers that hit the golf ball relatively straight off the tee and consistently pound greens in regulation.

Having stated that, I reviewed the 2020 Honda Classic field in an attempt to identify specific golfers that fit the above mentioned criteria. Upon doing so, one specific golfer’s name popped off the page for me. That golfer’s name is Gary Woodland!

Woodland has clearly shown that he has the mental ability to succeed on a very difficult golf course. An example of Gary’s ability to play extremely difficult tracks at a high level can clearly be seen in Woodland’s win at the 2019 United States Open. Woodland played simply outstanding at last year’s U.S. Open. It should be noted that Woodland outperformed Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm in the final round to capture his first major championship!

Woodland certainly arrives at this week’s event in good form as well. He finished seventh at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January. Woodland followed up that quality result with a 12th place finish at last week’s World Golf Championship in Mexico.

It should also be noted that Gary Woodland has previously played well at the Honda Classic. Woodland finished second at the 2017 Honda Classic.

Tommy Fleetwood $11,800

He has three consecutive top 18 finishes this year (PGA and European Tour events), including an 11th place result at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January. Fleetwood finished fourth in his only appearance at the Honda Classic in 2018.

Daniel Berger $10,600

Berger arrives at this week’s event on the heels of two consecutive top nine finishes on the PGA Tour, including a fifth place result at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this month.

Luke List $9,600

List finished second at the 2018 Honda Classic. He also arrives to this event in decent current form. List finished 25th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open earlier this month.

Maverick McNealy $8,700

He has made ten consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour. More importantly, McNealy has five top 27 finishes this season.

Doc Redman $7,900

Redman is currently ranked 12th in driving accuracy percentage (69.98%) and 28th in GIR (greens in regulation-71.62%) on the PGA Tour. He finished 20th at the 2019 Open Championship. More recently, Redman finished 29th at The American Express in January.
