4. Solidify the backup quarterback spot

That collective sigh of relief that appeared to be coming from the Crescent City was the fact that veteran quarterback Drew Brees, the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown throws, would be returning for his 20th NFL season and 15th campaign with the New Orleans Saints. Now all the franchise has to do is get a new deal done with one of the league’s most prolific passers.

But what to do about his backup? That really never appeared to be much of a question until this past season when Brees wound up missing five games due to a thumb injury suffered in Week 2 against the Rams. Enter savvy Teddy Bridgewater, who helped the team orchestrate a five-game winning streak while he was behind center.

But the 2016 first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings is slated to become a free agent in March and it appears “unlikely” that he will return to this club given he could wind up a starter elsewhere. Of course, they’re multi-talented Taysom Hill, who has captured the imagination of many fans thanks to his versatility as a runner, passer, receiver and more.

The real question is here is whether Hill, who’s thrown a limited amount of passes in his role as a Jack of all trades with the club, is ready to take on a bigger role behind center if so needed.
