Miami Dolphins – Draft Tua Tagovailoa

Staying in Florida and the next stage in the Miami Dolphins’ rebuild.

Tua Tagovailoa is why the Dolphins controversially traded all those assets in the 2019 season. With the noises about his recovery from a dislocated hip all positive, he should still be their number one target in the draft.

The Dolphins have the perfect veteran to start until they are comfortable throwing Tagovailoa in there. Ryan Fitzpatrick is good enough to keep the Dolphins competitive, but inconsistent enough that an opening to bench him for Tagovailoa will eventually present itself.

Miami picks fifth in the draft and their primary concern will be teams trying to get ahead of them to land Tagovailoa.

Indeed, the biggest question the Dolphins are likely to face on draft day is whether their desire to select Tagovailoa is strong enough to make them look to trade up for the former Alabama star.

Carolina Panthers – Stick with Cam Newton

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the Panthers are “moving forward” with Newton as their starting quarterback.

Dealing Newton for draft capital would be an understandable move given his last two seasons were hindered by shoulder and foot injuries.

Yet keeping him around is the correct decision.

The Panthers would save $21.2m by parting with him but, having had almost all of last season and an offseason to recover from his Lisfranc injury, Newton should be back to his best in 2020.

And that best is better than anything the Panthers will get out of a free agent quarterback or the seventh pick in the draft.

Still only 30, Newton should have plenty in the tank, and there is no harm in letting him prove it in a contract year under new head coach Matt Rhule.
