Prince Amukamara

The Chicago Bears cut Prince Amukamara because they were in a very bad way when it comes to the salary cap, and those issues can help the Arizona Cardinals defense a ton. The Cards hoped the cornerback position could be one of their few positions of strength last season, but it didn’t work out that way. Peterson was suspended to start the year. Robert Alford broke his leg and never played a snap after signing as a free agent. Byron Murphy was not ready for the role he was asked to play, and Tramaine Brock was supposed to be depth but ended up being a starter.

Amukamara brings a physical presence to a position that needs it in 2020. He’s going to go up against an interesting group of receivers in the division. That physicality will be key to throwing them off before the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo, Russell Wilson and Jared Goff can even make their read.

Amukamara is a player that most teams are going to covet. He’s not going to cost a ton but can play on the outside, or even in the slot in a pinch. His style of play translates just about everywhere on the field.

He’s never going to be the ball hawk we expect from our star corners, but he plays an old school style that doesn’t get him in trouble with the refs. He only had five total penalties last year, and just one of them was a defensive pass interference.

This feels like a no-brainer deal as long as Amukamara isn’t looking to sign only with a contender. They could even offer him a two-year deal, because he still has plenty left in the tank and would provide a nice veteran presence.
