1. A new franchise quarterback

Cam Newton’s age and injury history make him a poor fit to build around. Kyle Allen didn’t show enough in his starts last year to impress his new coaching staff. Will Grier looks like a backup at best. Add all of those statements up and it’s clear that Carolina needs to find a new franchise quarter back this offseason.

The obvious solution to the issue would be to draft a top-rated prospect at No. 7. Someone like Justin Herbert could fall to Carolina in that spot. Whether or not he would represent good value there is an entirely different question.

There’s also a chance that the Panthers could try to address the position via free agency. Marcus Mariota or Taysom Hill could be interesting projects for Rhule to experiment with. Would Teddy Bridgewater leave the Saints for the Panthers? Carolina could even be a landing spot for Jacoby Brissett if the Colts sour on his long-term prospects.

Next. Panthers can't afford to reach for the wrong quarterback in Round 1. dark

No matter what, the Panthers need to plot a new direction at quarterback. The days of counting on Newton to rescue the offense are clearly over. Expect to see a new player taking snaps for Carolina when Week 1 arrives.
