DraftKings NBA picks February 28: Whack em with Siakam
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA Shooting Guards:
Best Bets:
Brad Beal ($9,700): The usage and minutes are huge, so it should come as no surprise that Beal is putting up giant numbers. There are a few reasons why I’m not going heavy on Beal though. Utah’s defense is improving and Beal is the only guy on this team that can score. I feel like this is a blowout and the Wizards aren’t going to run Beal into the ground if they’re down 30. The price is too high with this much risk attached, but he does have at least 50 DraftKings points in three straight. It could very well happen again.
Jrue Holiday ($8,200): Holiday still gets plenty of usage with Zion around, so I’m not all that worried about the price. The Lakers defense locked him down, but that’s what they do. Holiday still picked up 33.25 DraftKings points despite a dreadful night from the floor. Expect that percentage and DraftKings score to be back well into the 40’s tonight against Cleveland.
Donovan Mitchell ($8,000): We’ve seen what guards have done to Washington lately, right? Add to that Mitchell’s back-to-back 50+ DraftKings point games – one of them even against Boston – and you have a recipe for a big night out of Mitchell. It doesn’t seem to matter who’s starting at the point. Mitchell is being more aggressive on offense. If that keeps up, he could be in for a monster.
Honorable Mention:
Collin Sexton ($6,400): Sexton is a little dangerous here since he does little more than score at this point. However, that’s what the Cavs need from him. He’s a huge part of this youth movement and has a great matchup against a Pelicans team that is improving everywhere but defensively. His upside remains capped with the absence of ancillary stats though.
Malik Beasley ($6,200): Russell and Beasley work well together. With those two on the court, I feel like Minnesota can keep up with most teams. Lost in the narrative of Orlando’s strong play is that they are still giving up quite a few points. They are just scoring more. I expect this to be pretty high scoring and I expect Minnesota to hang around for most of the game on the shoulders of Beasley and Russell.
Dark Horses:
Terrence Ross ($5,400): The Magic are rolling right now, which means most of their players are for DFS purposes. Ross has 94.75 DraftKings points in the three games since the All-Star break. This would look like a place to keep up that hot streak. Minnesota’s defensive inefficiencies are mentioned across the board and nothing has been done to rectify that. Ross is a solid play, but his upside is still capped off the bench.
Cam Reddish ($4,400): This will depend on if anyone can suit up at center for the Hawks or not. There is a very real chance that Collins will be the only guy that can man the post tonight. If that happens, I expect to see Reddish in the starting lineup. His rookie year has been littered with ups and downs, but more often than not, he puts up good numbers when he plays at least 30 minutes. If Reddish starts, he’s a strong value play.
Cody Martin ($3,700): Martin has 47.25 DraftKings points over the last two games with Graham missing a game and Monk missing the other. With Monk out for an extended period, now’s the time to jump on the Martin train. This is a tough matchup against Toronto, but he doesn’t really run with the starters. He’s still a solid bet for 20 DraftKings points even if he doesn’t have much upside.
