DraftKings NBA picks February 28: Whack em with Siakam
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA centers:
Best Bets:
Nikola Jokic ($9,600): Jokic was a disappointment against Detroit but that also has something to do with the lopsided score. He cleared 50 in the first meeting with the Clippers this year. However, Jokic is content to let the guards do most of the work with this team healthy. That often results in him not having much upside. He’s always a threat to go off, but I view him more of a cash game option right now.
Nikola Vucevic ($9,200): Vucevic has been a bust with only 80 DraftKings points in the last two games against two of the worst post defenses in the league in Brooklyn and Atlanta. The problem is that Gordon is taking over and leaving scraps for Vuce. The Magic look better as a team for it, but it’s cramping the value of Vucevic. He should dominate with Towns out, but I tend to think Gordon does again, leaving Vucevic a mild disappointment once again.
Honorable Mention:
Deandre Ayton ($8,100): Ayton feasted on Detroit in the first meeting, but that was before Henson suited up for the Pistons. He shouldn’t make that much of a different. Ayton abused Thon, Wood, or whoever else was unfortunate enough to get in his way. Ayton is the first center that I feel like could come in way above value for the price.
Zion Williamson ($8,000): We’ve reached the point where Zion’s upside isn’t all that high with the price up in this area. He’s still hitting value and shows remarkable consistency for a rookie, but Zion still has only hit 6x value once in his career for this price. Now the flip side: A ceiling game could be possible against a Cleveland team without Drummond. That said, Zizic wrecked Embiid (and all of my linueps) on Wednesday.
Dark Horses:
Harry Giles ($5,600): Color me impressed. Giles outscored Adams last night in the head-to-head matchup, turning in his third straight game of more than 30 DraftKings points. I don’t trust the Brooklyn center rotation. Even though Giles wont play 30 minutes, he’s doing a lot with the time he does get. I like him against the struggling and depleted Grizzlies front.
John Henson ($3,500): Henson held his own against both Whiteside and Jokic in teh last two games. Now he gets the man-child in Ayton. It wont be easy for Henson here either, but he has proven that he’ll hit value as this bargain price.
Chris Boucher ($3,400): This is a superb matchup and there’s a puncher’s chance that Boucher could approach a season high in minutes. Check on the status of Ibaka and Gasol before tip. I doubt Boucher starts, but he’ll still play plenty of minutes with Siakam. There’s a ton of upside here if both Ibaka and Gasol are out.
