2. Miami Dolphins

How bad was the Miami Dolphins running game this past season? In a year where the Baltimore Ravens set a new standard for rushing yards by a team in an NFL campaign, the ‘Fins were simply dreadful when it came to this area.

Granted, both team’s quarterbacks — 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and ageless Ryan Fitzpatrick — led their clubs in yards on the ground. Of course, the former set a new standard for the position with 1,206 yards rushing. Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick ran for a paltry 243 yards but did reach the end zone four times. In any case, Jackson outrushed the entire Dolphins’ team (1,156) by season’s end.

All told, Brian Flores’ team ranked dead last in the league in rushing with a mere 72.3 yards per contest. And by midseason, running back Kenyan Drake was a member of the Arizona Cardinals — one of a slew of changes by an organization looking to change the culture in South Florida.

Now the Dolphins head into 2020 with a bevy of draft choices and a ton of money at their disposal (via Spotrac). Flores and general manager Chris Grier will certainly be busy in April. But could the club, which won five of its last nine games in 2019 after a horrid 0-7 start, sink some big bucks into a 26-year-old running back who is an adept runner and pass-catcher such as Melvin Gordon?
