2020 NFL Draft: New York Giants 7-round mock
By Nick Villano
Round 3, Pick 97: Bryan Edwards, WR, South Carolina
The Giants traded a third-round pick for Leonard Williams right before the trade deadline. However, they are expected to get a third-round compensatory pick after losing Landon Collins in free agency to the Washington Redskins.
Bryan Edwards was probably going to be an early third-round pick, but he broke his foot during training and that’s going to scare some teams away. That’s going to allow him to fall into the Giants lap at the end of the third round.
Edwards is a massive specimen, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 212 pounds. He has a similar feel as former Giants great Amani Toomer and could be that same possession receiver that once graced Giants Stadium. Edwards has a great catch radius that will help Daniel Jones build confidence. He may not have the speed and athleticism to replace Beckham, but if he can just provide the ability to go up and get a ball as long as it’s close, that might be all the Giants need.
His stats don’t jump off the page, but South Carolina hasn’t had the talent to compete in the SEC in a while, and Edwards did show some promise on the biggest stages.
Some teams are going to get scared off by the inconsistencies caused by South Carolina’s quarterback. Also, his injury history isn’t the greatest. Still, he has all the makings of a starting wide receiver, and he’s expected to be fully healthy by May, just in time to go 100 percent in preseason workouts.
