One of the XFL’s best wide receivers – L.A.’s Nelson Spruce – will not play Saturday, but teammate Tre McBride will fill in nicely as  the Wildcats (1-2) travel to New York to hand the Guardians (1-2) their third consecutive loss.

Spruce, who is No. 2 in the XFL in receiving yardage with 256 yards and has 41.5 fantasy football points,  is out due to a knee injury.  McBride is coming off of his best weekend of the season.  In week 3 against the D.C. Defenders, he caught 5 passes for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Wildcats quarterback Josh Johnson will also rely on running back Martez Carter to match the 2 rushing touchdowns he scored against the Defenders last weekend.  Though Spruce will be missed, Johnson has shown he is not reluctant to spread the ball around as he threw to 9 different pass catchers for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns.

An injury also plays a role in determining New York’s starting quarterback for Saturday’s game.  Matt McGloin was injured in the first offensive drive against the BattleHawks and is listed as “Out” on the XFL Injury Report for week 4.

Ironically, Juan Perez who was traded by L.A. to the Guardians before the season is the likely starter at quarterback for New York.  Perez looked pretty good in relief of McGloin and Marquise Williams in week 3’s game.  He completed 4 out of 5 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown..

Running back Darius Victor is probably Perez’s most valuable offensive weapon. Victor averages 4.5 yards per carry and is a reliable pass catcher.

Defensively, the Guardians have the edge.  Defensive tackle Bunmi Rotimi is among the leaders in tackles (16) and safety Wes Sutton is one of five players in the XFL with 2 sacks.  L.A.’s secondary has been strong with cornerback Mike Stevens leading the league with 2 interceptions.

Here are the DFS recommendations for this game:

  • START L..A. receiver Tre McBride
  • START L.A. running back Martez Carter
  • START N.Y. running back Darius Victor
  • SIT N.Y. quarterback(s)
  • EXPECT the L.A. Wildcats to win by 11 with the total points not exceeding 29

The game will be played on:

  • Saturday, February 29, 2:00 p.m. EST at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
  • TV Channel: ABC and Live Stream: Watch ESPN and the ESPN App
