Barring negotiations with Dak Prescott going south, the early rounds figure to be defense-heavy for the Cowboys no matter how you slice it. While I think players like Javon Kinlaw and Marlon Davison are firmly on Dallas’ radar, the team could opt to wait until the third round for LSU’s Rashard Lawrence.

Lawrence was an integral part of the Tigers’ defense for the past three seasons, finishing his LSU career with 20.5 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks. At 6-foot-2 and 308 pounds, Lawrence checks the size and length (34 1/8-inch arms) that could make him a valuable contributor for Dallas on the inside. He’s a valiant competitor who has played through a lot of injuries during his career, and that type of durability will be welcome at the NFL level.

Midseason acquisitions Michael Bennett and Robert Quinn are both slated to hit free agency, as well as Maliek Collins, meaning it will be sooner rather than later that the team addresses the front four in the draft. Personally, I think the depth of this class allows you to wait until Day 2 or 3 if the guy you truly covet isn’t there.
