Fifth Round

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Lamar Jackson. 141. player. 810. Cornerback. Nebraska

The Jets need to address the secondary this offseason, but the value simply isn’t there early in the draft. Expect a depth pick here with Nebraska’s Lamar Jackson. The biggest takeaway with Jackson is his 6-foot-3 size, which is a rarity for a productive NFL corner.

The Jets may look to add a guy of Jackson’s capability here, hoping he can develop into a late-round gem as Bless Austin did a year ago. Paring Jackson with Austin, a free agent signing, and the retention of Brian Poole should give the Jets plenty of options in the secondary.

Sixth Round

The Jets have two sixth rounders here: their own and one they acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in the Darron Lee trade. That Chiefs’ choice was previously dealt for Nate Hairston but returned when the conditions of the deal were not met.

30. Scouting Report. Running Back. 172. Illinois State. James Robinson. player. Pick Analysis

The Jets were disappointed with Le’Veon Bell a year ago, and they could use some depth at running back. The sixth round is a great spot to take a flier on Illinois State’s James Robinson, who was incredibly productive at the FCS level, rushing for 1,899 yards and 18 touchdowns on 364 carries.

Robinson is a decisive runner and hits the hole quickly, which is one of Adam Gase’s preferred qualities at running back. With Bell unlikely to be back with the Jets after next season, Robinson could be a developmental guy who eventually turns into a starting running back.

Justin Strnad. Outside Linebacker. Wake Forest. 192. player. 30. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Jets will spend their second sixth-rounder here on Justin Strnad, a linebacker with good skills in space. Strnad is a bit of a project in terms of developing into a starter, but he should be able to contribute right away as a coverage linebacker on passing downs.

Seventh Round

The Jets don’t have a seventh-round pick after trading it to Baltimore last season as part of the Alex Lewis trade.
