New York Rangers star forward Mika Zibanejad scored five goals in a 6-5 overtime win on Thursday night, and predictably, Twitter lost its mind.

Zibanejad put forth the effort of his career on Thursday night, leading the Rangers to a 6-5 overtime win over the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden. The victory puts the Rangers two points back of the New York Islanders for the second and final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders notably have a game in hand.
With his performance, Zibanejad now has a team-high 38 goals on the season. He also caused quite the eruption on Twitter, where fans and analysts alike are going wild over one of the best games we’ve seen from any player this year.

Incredibly, the 26-year-old Swede did all this on only eight shots. With 15 games remaining in the regular season for the Rangers, they’ll need more heroics to earn a berth in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
However, all things seem possible on a night like this. New York was largely expected to be finishing the year improved but not quite playoff ready during this rebuilding effort. Now, the Rangers appear one of the more dangerous sleepers in the league, peaking at the right time.
