8. QB Jameis Winston

After a historic 30-30 season (touchdowns and interceptions, 33 and 30 respectively) where he also led the league with 5,109 passing yards, Winston has had thumb, eye and knee surgery this offseason.

It’s easy to be an advocate for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers moving on from Winston as he hits free agency, and most signs point to that happening (rightfully so). But this is still a former No. 1 overall pick who is 26 years old. A change of scenery should do him a lot of good.

How other teams will value Winston, in terms of anointing him as the starter instantly, installing him as competition to an incumbent or signing him strictly as a backup, is fairly unclear and of course dependent on the situation. But there should be a number of suitors, with a “we can fix him” vibe to some degree.

Winston’s physical tools have never been a question. The positive production he had while apparently pretty banged up last year is worth noting, and if he can curb the turnovers with less pressure on him in a new spot the latent upside can’t be ignored. Someone might make a calculated bet on talent here, and have it pay off better than anyone expects.
