Peter Weberās season of The Bachelor comes to a close. Here are the highlights from all the drama we were promised.
There was no way Peterās finale could possibly live up to the expectations set by those promos, claims of never-before-seen-ness andĀ The Bachelor franchiseās own high standards of drama, romance and Neil Lane sponcon. Dear sweet Peter. It seems this process has aged him as much as a presidency, but the drama is almost over.
After a season that could generously be described as disappointing, the Bachelor Nation faithful nonetheless tuned in to see who Peter would pick, which of Reality Steveās sources would be correct and who Mama Weber was talking about!!
We were told it was dramatic. We were told it was unique. We were told it couldnāt be spoiled. We were told Peter didnāt even know how it ended!
Here are the most dramatic moments that punctuated both nights.
Part One (Monday night)
The first nightās drama was very Madison-centric, unsurprisingly. Hannah Ann, for her part, had a delightful and affirming visit with Peterās family and a rather heartbreaking date with Peter (more on that below).
1. Madisonās pre-parents talk with Peter
Whew, Madison. Madi and Pete had another one of their classic, circular conversations that are the antithesis of dramaĀ exceptĀ Madison once again gave Peter 100 signs she is just not feeling this. In addition to dodging his attempts to kiss her the entire length of their conversation, she also refused to give him any verbal indication she loved him.
Pick up the cues, dude!
2. Madisonās disaster with his parents
If you thought Madisonās chat with Peter was awkward, it was three thousand times worse with his family. Peter is convinced there is a future there, despite all evidence to the contrary, but his family is not. Mama Weber, Peter Jr. and Peterās brother whose name I did not catch had no reservations about making it abundantly clear to Madison that they are not a good match vis-a-vis religion, lifestyle and basically everything. Drama!
3. āBRING HER HOMEā
Finally, we got the Barbara ābring her homeā moment and the focus of her positive angst was⦠Hannah Ann!
Hannah Ann really charmed the pants of Peterās family and the whole Weber clan caped hard for her, but none more so that Barb who a) started calling Peter ābudā b) cited God multiple times c) really drove home the feeling that Hannah Ann is perfect and Madison is not here for him. Which, true, but there is an appropriate time, place and degree of parental advice.
His familyās disapproval had, of course, the age-old effect of making Peter more committed than ever to Madison.
4. Madison āsurrendersā
Unfortunately, the Webers disapproval did sway Madison. (But letās be real, her body language all episode suggests the Webers were merely that final straw.)Ā In two speeches, one in an ITM to the camera and one to Peter directly, Madison articulates what we all already know: The differences between them are pretty insurmontable and sheās gotta go. Dear, sweet Pete is heartbroken.
(Any credit she earns here for doing the hard thing will evaporate at approximately 8 p.m. ET Tuesday given we know sheās cominā back full of regrets.)
5. Hannah Ann left hanging
Peter!!! We know your heart is hurting, but you have to stop doing the women you are dating like this. Hannah Ann is thrilled for her date with Peter, but immediately cottons to Peteyās sad mood. She thinks itās due to the difficulty of his situation and is as supportive as ever. But rather than tell her Madison is gone, he leaves her squirming and twists the knife by coming to her later to tell her his week has been super hard and generally looking miserable. Nice, bud.
Part Two (Tuesday night)
1. Peterās poor proposalĀ
Maybe donāt drop the name of your sort-of ex seconds before proposing to your other girlfriend!!
2.Ā Hannah Annās speech
He reached out to Hannah Brown too!!
3. Chris Harrison goes to Alabama
