6-foot-3 | G. Kentucky. Tyrese Maxey. 9. player. Pick Analysis. Scouting Report. 142

John Wall’s contract is the only thing certain about his future with the Wizards. If Wall can get healthy, Maxey represents a solid backup option to learn from a fellow Calipari product while waiting in the wings to take over the Washington backcourt someday. Maxey projects as a lead shot creator but not necessarily an elite one or one that requires a super high usage rate. As a good defender, he may just need to be decent facilitating while improving his shooting to become a player worthy of 30+ minutes a night down the road.

Better suited next to a primary playmaker, the fit with Beal would be quite ideal if Maxey pans out should Wall be out of the equation for whatever reason. If Wall is healthy, Maxey can function as a combo guy or an undersized wing off the bench. His defense will make him playable as long as he shoots a little bit.
