Memphis. 170. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 8. player. 7-foot-1 | C. James Wiseman

Wiseman is probably the most polarizing player in the 2020 class. He ranks anywhere from the top-three to around 24th depending on whose board you’re looking at. Generally teams in the Hornets position should go best player available, and they do not have clear incumbent option at center to block Wiseman or deter them from taking the value here. He’d actually make an interesting frontcourt pairing with P.J. Washington, a 2019 first-round pick.

Wiseman has one of the highest upsides in the class, despite his anticlimactic collegiate experience in Memphis. At 7-foot-1 with around a 7’6 wingspan, the 18-year old also possesses a unique package of speed and burst for his size. He could evolve into one of the better big men in the game, and if he checks enough boxes in the pre-draft process, he’ll be in play in this range with little doubt. Right now he is very raw and some aren’t sure he’ll figure it out enough to justify a high selection, but rumor has it those in the league still like Wiseman. The league is going away from center, so that’s why he’s down here, but don’t be surprised if he goes much earlier come June.
